Bengaluru: In April this year, the Department of Agriculture launched a three-day consumer and trade fair. The response was overwhelming, with 80,000 visitors and over 300 millet-based businesses participating. The department had earlier launched a #30daymillet challenge to promote growing awareness on millets.

With the International Millets and Organic Fair coming up in Bengaluru in January, the #30daychallenge has been relaunched to encourage people to start the New Year in good health. “We want people to be a part of this campaign actively. We will be asking them to share pictures of their food with tags like #letsmillet and #30daymilletchallenge. We want to ensure this social awareness campaign bridges the gap among farmers, traders and consumers,” says minister for agriculture Krishna Byre Gowda.

“Once there is market for millets, farmers will respond. Right now, they are not keen to scale up as they are not sure of…the market,” Gowda said.
